Niantic Inc are the makers of Pokémon Go and have fully focused on the further development of applications for virtual reality. After application examples for the HoloLens 2 from Microsoft had already been shown, Niantic CEO John Hanke recently astonished his Twitter followers with the following tweet, on which the section of AR glasses from NIANTIC can be seen, in the case of "Artificial Reality" Reality merged with the real environment. In contrast to VR - Virtual Reality, where you only see virtual content.

Admittedly, you can't see much on it yet, but together with the developments in the direction of holo-lenses, it could already be in the direction of VR glasses. The openings on the lower edge suggest speakers. Thus, you would not have to push in the annoying earplugs but would be able to hear the sound relatively naturally from the front, left, or right.

We are very excited to see what the glasses will ultimately look like and what they can really do. In any case, AR applications would be much more fun and practicable with relatively light glasses than with the relatively bulky VR glasses and headsets for 3D applications that are currently available from Microsoft and Facebook. Google Glass was probably just a little early here.
