Artificial intelligence from IBM can discuss with people and convince them

Project Debator is new AI software from IBM that can lead discussions and debates with people. In a test, this software managed to dissuade people from their original opinion and to convince them. The software could be used in the fight against fake news in the future.

IBM pioneers in artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence, also known as AI, is on the rise. Intelligent systems and software are already getting better and better and compete with people or have already overtaken them in many areas. One of the pioneers in AI research and development is IBM. The in-house KI Watson has already taken part in debates and discussed them. A new project has now been launched and presented in a scientific paper in Nature Magazine's Project Debater.

Project Debater can debate people

In Project, Debtor is an autonomous and intelligent system, which people with discussions may result. Impressive results were obtained when testing this software. The debate was given 15 minutes to “read in” a topic and was then even able to make an opening statement and prepare counter-arguments for the later discussion. Although very well-prepared volunteers won almost all battles have managed Project Debtor even fundamentally the opinion of nine people to change.

Artificial intelligence in the fight against fake news

Project observers like Chris Reed find Project Debtor an exciting experiment and possibly a foretaste of how artificial intelligence could be used sensibly in the future to process the vast amounts of data on the Internet. If these AI systems manage to distinguish well-founded and correct information from fake news, these systems could be extremely helpful to us in the future. As one often argues with artificial intelligence - AI should not replace people, but support them in certain areas.
